Community Impact: Line4Line creates change in Baton Rouge by confronting community challenges through literacy as lived action. Literacy as lived action is a framework Line4Line employs across our programs which recognizes literacy not merely as sounding out words on a page, but as a dynamic process of intaking, integrating, creating, and expressing that’s connected to holistic youth well-being. Line4Line understands that young people are multi-faceted, and the methods used to educate them need to be just as active, inspired, and varied as they are. Literacy as lived action is built on the idea that the most impactful learning is delivered in context, or—said differently–that youth development is effective when the programs and curricula young people interact with account for circumstance, identity, and other specificities related to participant needs. Line4Line’s grounds our programming in local youth’s lived experience, imparting essential literacy skills in a manner that meets young people where they’re at, celebrates their unique perspectives, and ultimately empowers them to succeed.
